How Often Should You Get Your Car Serviced?

There are several primary factors to take into consideration that determines how often should you get your car serviced:

• How many miles do you drive each year?
• Do you keep up with the recommended vehicle maintenance services;
• How do you use your vehicle (towing, carry heavy loads, etc.)?
• What road conditions do you drive on consistently?

With the onboard computers in most cars today, a light on the instrument panel will illuminate alerting you when certain services are needed. But, it is still important to discuss the specific service requirements for your vehicle with a trained car repair technician. They can conduct a thorough evaluation and let you know exactly what work should be done immediately, what can wait a while, and how much it will cost.

Even if you’re not experiencing noticeable car problems, it is generally recommended that you have your car serviced every twelve months or 12,000 miles, whichever comes first. At a minimum, fluid levels should be checked frequently, motor oil and filter changed, the brakes inspected and repaired as needed, and tires rotated. If you neglect any of these items, you will eventually find yourself facing some form of costly car repair.
