- Have the cooling system, heater and defroster checked. The passenger cabin should be free from fog and condensation. Good visibility for the driver and passenger comfort is very important. It may be time for a system flush to keep it in tip-top condition.
- Replace old wiper blades: Replace old blades to maintain a safe field of vision. Stock up on windshield washer fluid that won’t freeze in cold temperatures and don’t forget to carry an ice scraper.
- Check your car battery: Cold temperatures can cause an already weak battery to lose its reserve power for starting a car. It may be time to replace your old battery so you don’t get stuck with a vehicle that won’t start.
- Inspect all bulbs and lenses: Replace burned out bulbs and keep the lenses free of road grime.
- Examine tires: Check for uneven tread wear and the sidewalls for cuts and nicks. Check tire pressure (when your tires are cooled down) at least once a week. Rotate your tires as recommended and make sure the wheels are in alignment.
