What sort of trouble?
Here are a couple of examples to illustrate the kinds of trouble you can get into by failing to have the recommended transmission repair:
1) Without a much-needed transmission fluid change, you can mess up your torque converter. The needle bearings underneath can get too warm and worn down. When this happens, you will need much more than a simple transmission repair to fix it. The gears will be grinding from underneath and you will start to hear other strange sounds as well. These sounds are a bad sign of trouble, which is why it's best not to let it get this far. Have your transmission fluid changed at the right times.
2)You might also face some clutch problems. This goes along with the torque issues. The clutch can jam, the power from the engine will be drastically reduced, and you may hear a big thud coming from underneath your vehicle. The transmission may become overheated as well. There might also be some very violent shaking coming from the transmission. This will affect everything in your car so stop driving! It will make matters worse.
