Expert Car Care Inc.

Good news--summer is almost here! If you’re planning a summer road trip, you certainly want a reliable vehicle. Even for just a short commute to work or school, ask your auto shop how you can be sure your car is driving as safe as possible.

The first thing to do is to schedule an inspection of the various systems of your vehicle to determine if there are any potential problem. You don’t want to end up on the side of the road, calling a tow truck to a new auto shop for repairs.

Here are four tips from an auto shop for safer summer driving:

  1. Keep up with recommended maintenance items: Check all the fluids (oil, brake, transmission, radiator, etc.), and replace or top-off as necessary. If you can, use high quality filters. Check the braking system, battery and alternator, and all the lights (interior and exterior) to make sure all is functioning properly. Finally, check your wiper blades and replace them as necessary.
  2. Condition of your tires, plus the spare: Inspect your tires for signs of abnormal wear and make sure they have the proper inflation pressure. Remember to have your tires rotated about 5,000 to 6,000 miles. It may be time for new tires if the rubber is too thin.
  3. Clean out your car: A clean car is a amore comfortable car! To keep your carpets clean, use all-weather floor mats. Wash windows frequently so there is nothing obstructing your view. Removing extra weight, such as unnecessary items from the trunk and backseat, will increase your vehicle’s fuel efficiency. However, keep the roadside emergency kit, including blankets, snacks, and water in the trunk.
  4. Inspect the radiator: Make sure the ratio of coolant and water is adequate for hot temperatures, and that the hoses have no cracks or bulges.

The unexpected could still happen. But, you can head out the door with confidence knowing that your auto shop has taken care of the maintenance items so that your car is as safe as possible to drive. Not only will you have a stress-free drive, but gas mileage and performance should increase!
