Expert Car Care Inc.

This is the most annoying feeling to be offered especially on an important trip only to find that your car has a dead battery on the highway. In order to spare you from this nuisance, the first sign of a deteriorating battery can help determine when it is time for car battery replacement. So, how do you know if your car battery is dead, and it is high time that you changed it?

Here is how to know:

  • Electrical Problems:  Your car battery operates all of the electrical elements in your car. Poor or non-operating headlights, a blinking dashboard light, and a struggling radio-even failing cell phone charger can be a sign of a weak battery.
  • Corrosion:  See a blue-green, powdery deposit on your terminals. That's corrosion, which can block the flow of power resulting in such starting problems.
  • Swelling or Bulging:  When the outer casing of your battery starts looking swollen or even misshapen, then that is a sign of internal damage, hence surely a cause of concern.
  • Smell of Foul Odor: Normally, the smell of a bad egg coming from under the hood might be occasioned by leakage or some sort of damage within the battery.
  • Clicking Sound During Cranking:  The clicking sound is an indication that the starter is drawn and wants to engage but it does not get enough juice from the battery to turn over the engine.
  • More Frequent Jump-Starts:  In this case, if you realize you need to jolt your car now and then, then this is a warrant sign that the battery can no longer retain charge.
  • Age:  Most car batteries last for 3 to 6 years. If yours is nearing or has just surpassed this age, it would be very prudent on your part to always have a keen eye on the same and thus be adequately prepared for a car battery replacement.
